West Main Street

Historic West Main Street

Louisville is home to the second largest collection of Cast Iron Architecture in the nation. A part of that collection is preserved along the West Main Historic District. Along with the cast iron are magnificent limestone and brick structures, most dating back to the post Civil War era.

East Main Street

A Quick Tour

East Main Street has suffered greatly from redevelopment. Unlike West Main, the remaining buildings are scattered more widely and renovation is far slower in coming. The pictures presented here are from our archives. They represent a very small portion and not necessarily the best of the architecture that remains. As time permits, additional photographs will be added. As always, photographs cannot do justice to these magnificent structures. Please, come see them for yourself.

Old Louisville

A Quick Tour

Old Louisville is one of the largest and most impressive historic districts in the nation. All that can be done here is give you a flavor for the area. There is nothing like seeing it in person.

Ormsby from Fourth to Sixth

These short two blocks contain single and multi-family residences, mansions and a hotel. It is a very interesting area to visit. If you happen to be there at lunch or dinner time, stop in Buck's in the Mayflower Hotel.

Walking Courts

Floral Terrace

Floral Terrace is an interesting one block long walking court containing 21 houses. The houses were built between 1904 and 1910 and are representative of middle class living. The renovation of this court began in earnest about 1995 with the installation of street lights, a brick sidewalk, a fountain and the iron gates at each end.
